DR for Exchange 2003 in SAN
I have been given a task of setting up Disaster Recovery for Exchange 2003 Infrastructure. We have several Exchange Servers in each of the 2 Sites. Each Site will be a Recovery Center for each other. I'd like to set up a block level Exchange DR between the 2 Sites. All Exchange data are currently in SAN. The 2 Sites are well connected with 45 Mbits/sec connection. 1) How do I set up a block level DR for this SAN environment? 2) What would be the best application used for replication? Thanks in advance for the help.

You might want to check with your SAN vendor. I know that EMC, IBM, HP and Dell all have some type of SAN to SAN level replication but those usually require you have the same SAN on both sides. In full disclosure I work for Double-Take software which is host based replication, at the byte level, but runs on the Exchange server host replicating the data in real-time that resides on the SAN. I think EMC has snapmirror, IBM has a level of replication with their DS3000, Dell has Equallogic and HP has storage works storage mirroring. You will probably need to evaluate what works best for the SAN you have becuase not all SAN replication products will likely be supported depending on the vendor. - hope that helps

Thank you BRennels for your feedback.

As you said I am looking for a product that BEST FIT for our SAN. We are using EMC SAN and they have several applications that does this namely, Replistor, Avamar. But what I really wanted to know and get some feed back is that if anyone has actually used any 3rd party tool for Exchange DR successfully and happy with it.

By googling around I saw several vendors namely Double-Take, Sonasoft, Avamar and MailShadow but have not seen any proper feedback on them. Again, I wanted to know if anyone has actually used these products and happy with it.

Thanks again.
