I have a reqyuirement to develop a program to download the table entries of the table LFBK into an excel file. This program will be scheduled in the background for a weekly reporting. I am currently using FM 'EXCEL_OLE_STANDARD_DAT' which is working fine in the foreground but not in the background. I believed that FMs WS* only could not execute in background. Can anyone of you help on this? This is very urgent. Thanks in advance for an early response.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I know, you cannot download to a file on your PC regardless of the function module when running in background. That’s because the background job runs only on your application server without an active connection to your PC, hence no way to download to the PC. You can only download to the server (using sequential datasets).

This is a tricky one. Things that work on-line will not necessarily work the same in background when the PC is not present. If you need the tabel at a point in time, why not create a Z-Table of the same format, and schedule a background job to copy LFBK to it. Then you can download to Excel at leisure the next day when on-line again using SE16 or (better) SQVI?

Guys, Do correct me if i am wrong. If itz particular that you have to download into excel format, y not send mail with an attachment in Excel format to specified recipients. No need to maintain another table and it wont need any user interaction later even after the program is executed. Thanks Rawse

If the excel data formatting is not important, then I suggest you create in a background job, a tab delimited text file and save it on an external server accessible to the PC user. The user can then open this file using excel. To save the tab delimited file on the external server, you can use the function module FTP_CONNECT and the FTP command PUT in the function module FTP_COMMAND. Regards. Sitapsa
