Hi, We have a requirement where in we have to generate reports on the web i.e. using I.E 6.x using Crystal Reports 11. The foll are the requirements. 1) Reports i.e. mainly graphs like Pie,Bar, Combo etc are to be created and displayed on the web. 2) The data would reside in Domino databases. 3) The end user should be able to select the type of chart at run time i.e. the end user should be able mention that display the selected data in Pie chart or Bar chart at the run time. 4) The reports/ report data should be able to be exported in Ms-Excel, Ms-Word and PDF file. 5) The web browser would be Internet Explorer 6.x or above. 6) The operating system would be Windows 2000 or 2003 or any other OS from Windows family. Based on the above requirements, I have the following queries. a) Are Lotus Domino R6.x, Crytal 11.x and Windows OS compatible with each other to display reports on I.E 6.x & above? b) Can the type of chart i.e. Pie or Bar or Combo chart be specified at run time by the user? If yes what is the complexity to achieve this feature. Any material or link to get more info on this would be highly appreciated. c) Can the report and report data be exported to Ms-Excel, Ms-Word and PDF file? Can the report displayed on I.E be easily copied and pasted in a Powerpoint file? If yes what is the complexity to achieve this feature. Any material or link to get more info on this would be highly appreciated. Regards Viki Lingeria

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

a) Yes. We are using CR (earlier version) to report against Domino data via a browser.

b) One method: Put all desired types on the report, in different sections. Have user select in the report options from a list, and suppress the other graph sections based on that selection. Not very efficient, as CR will build the graphs anyway, but it will work.

c) From the CR viewer you can export to a number of formats. In the version we’re running, PDF, Excel, Word, Crystal, Txt.

Before you lock in on CR, unless you have already spent the money, look at what MS Reporting Services and Proposion’s Report Adapter for MS Reporting Services can do. It may get you where you want to be for less money and pain. There are other reporting tools out there as well that may work for you.

Hi, We have a LN Domino 6 and Crystal Enterprise 10. a) Yes. Domino 6 and Crystall 11 are compatible. I could email you a copy of VB code on how to integrate Crystal Reports 8.5 with Lotus Notes. I am not sure about IE 6. b) Yes. Use parameters. Look in the Help files in Crystall 11 designer for parameters. c)Yes. The report and report data can be exported in Excel, Word and PDF. However, the Excel import doesn't work very well if you have complex formulas. In fact, I get unsatisfactory Excel output with Crystal Reports 10. I am not sure about Crystal 11. PDF is your best option.
