My company is in the process if investigation BI tools to meet this requirement.

We have found that in the eyes of a user, it is the right tool if they can get the data out easily and quickly, with a simple UI. In the eyes of the super-user / developer a good tool allows the to develop reports quickly and publish to users and In the eyes IT - if the tool is secure and easy to set up with little maintaince and gives them the ability to pass the day to day issues on to the superusers.

In all cases this is subjective - if the end user has little IT skills they tend to class all technology as unusable and avoid it like the plauge, if they are technology savvy they can find a simple UI too restrictive. The best solution is the happy medium for all concerned

We could always improve our data analytics but budget restraints and getting a true understanding of what the business needs is always a challenge. I think for now we have an adequate solution. I am sure as we continue to collect more data and information we will continually revisit the issue. I think the bigger challenge is making sure this information is secure.
