We have two SonicWALL firewalls and a SonicWALL SSL VPN (Which I have yet to configure.. it’s next, I promise.) at the office here.
I’ve honestly never encountered a better firewall for a medium business. Over the course of the last month the equipment has stopped thousands of unauthorized attempts to access our database, one of the access attempts actually slowed us down enough so that only a trickle of data was allowed out as the SonicWALL caused an automated limit of our bandwidth to protect our data transfer.
The company itself has great customer service. The moment I received caution that IE was having another zero-day access problem SonicWALL e-mailed me to assure our company that this access exploit would not harm anything we have behind the SonicWALL.
Their tech support could use a bit of work, I have been unable to get one of their techs on line faster than 90min.
The main change I would like to see is a few more ports on the front for load balancing ISP connections. When we were setting ours up for the backup data link we actually ran out of ports, that may be our own fault though we have a few reserved for future projects.
On the SSL VPN – I’m really excited to get working on this. When I was hired on last month there were four projects that my boss bought and they’ve been collecting dust for a while now. He wants to connect the Sonicwall SSL VPN to an RSA authenticating device, the sheer amount of security in that combination just stuns me some times.
That’s my short and skinny on SonicWALL, off to find coffee so I can make sense as the day goes on.
