DNS server resolves 2 port card incorrectly

Network Interface Cards, iSeries networking, IP addressing, DNS

We recently installed a new partition with a 2 port ethernet card. Each port has its own IP address and connections through the network work fine. The problem is that both ports are known to the DNS servers by the one system name so when a DNS name lookup occurs, some users are directed to one port and others to the other. Is there any way on the iSeries we can have the system name attached to 1 port and another name to port 2 without changing the local DNS server settings.

To do this you would have to remove the DNS settings for the second NIC card and put a static entry in the DNS server pointing to this IP Address.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping for a purely iSeries solution but as needs must, we go with the static DNS setting.

You can prevent the other network adapter from registering with DNS.
