You were right. When I open dns from within mmc the zones are all there. Unfortunately, it doesn't show the other server. Is there a way to replace the regular dns manager without doing a re-install of all of dns? If not, I will show my techs this workaround. This was much better advice than I was getting from the support group we have for colleges in this state. They wanted me to recreate the zones with the broken manager. The whole idea of that seemed wrong to me. Thanks.

Concur with 'ramheka' the MMC (Microsoft Management Console) has a corrupted DNS snap-in. There are many ways to get to the point where things stop dislaying. There is one good way to get back to normal. Replace the 'snap-in' for DNS and you should be back at the default views.
