 DNS for second domain controller
Hi all,

I am planning to install a second domain controller to our main corporate network. There are currently two DC's in place; one is the primary DC, which is a physical server, and the other is the secondary DC which is virtual. My question is about DNS. I understand that when I add a new DC to the group, the Active Directory data etc. should replicate on it's own. What about DNS? Do I have to add DNS as a new role to the server (it's already an installed component), or will it replicate automatically as well? If that isn't clear, please let me know and I'll see if I can clarify a bit.

Thanks, Lordhowe

Answer Wiki:
You have to add it. It is a role that you can add. You can choose "active directory integrated zone", and it will replicate with active directory. ------------------ You can't have Active Directory installed without DNS. If the server in case already have DNS installed, when you run dcpromo, you should choose to configure DNS AD integrated zone as suggested by Ingram87. If when you run dcpromo the server in case does not have DNS server installed, you will be notified of that and guided to install it DNS in that moment. If you decline the installation, the dcpromo task will be canceled also. HTH Satruno
