Q:
Distribution group not showing in Exchange 2007 console
Distribution group not showing in Exchange 2007 console
We
use AD 2003 which I have installed on my desktop (MMC 3.0) with the
Exchange 2007 snap-in added. The problem is if, for example, I add a
Distribution Group (Global or Univ) to the Active Directory Users and
Computers snap-in and desire this group to have email it does not
replicate to the Exchange 2007 Distribution Group list. However, when I
create the distribution group in the Microsoft Exchange > Recipient
Configuration > Distribution Group section it will replicate to the
AD Dist group. Why? The mail server is not a domain controller.

Software/Hardware used:
Exchange 2007, MMC 3.0

Exchange looks up data on the global catalog server(s) only. To see the changes immediately in AD Users and Computers, choose the Global Catalog server that your Exchange server is using to make changes or manually replicate to the other Domain Controllers in AD Sites and Services.

Exchange 2007 management moved from Active Directory directly to the Exchange Server. This is also why you cannot successfully create a fully functioning mailbox for Exchange 2007 in Active Directory either. Create mailboxes and distribution groups using the Exchange Server Management console only. Do not use Active Directory for these functions any more.
