Hi all, How to merge 2 or more record formats of a display file while displaying (Exfmt    A ) in AS/400. Please note that the Record formats are not of type SFL here. Here A  B and C are  Different Record formats. On Exfmt A/B/C. all should display together. How to do it?. Please reply.

Software/Hardware used:

Use the OVERLAY keyword on formats B and C. See the OVERLAY (Overlay) keyword for display files topic in the Information Center for details. -- Tom

Tom, I tried using OVERLAY for B and C, and when i do EXFMT B it is throwing only Record Format B only. I want to display A,B and C together by using single EXFMT statement. Is there any thing else i need to take care ?

    There could be other things.

First, the record formats shouldn't cover lines that overlap. I'd have to see the DDS for formats A and B to tell if that's happening. Second, you need to compile with RSTDSP(*YES), as is mentioned in the link I provided. I'd need to see the CRTDSPF command that you use; the standard default is RSTDSP(*NO). Third, there are other DDS keywords that negate the OVERLAY keyword, and I'd have to see the DDS for those.

All of the possible things are mentioned in the previous link.

Must have overlooked the way you tell the system to display the other formats.

In the RPG before you issue the EXFMT you will write the other formats.

    Write A

    Write C

    Exfmt  B
