Display Error Message in DSPF File Problem

Have a Display File PP20F and a program PP20R. I have to validate the term code with the term file and I have done that but I need to display an error message when an incorrect term code is keyed or when it has blanks in the term code and[Enter] is pressed. It doesn't do it no matter what I code. If I press the [F12] it shows the correct error message for that error from the message file. The program and display file was not written by me - I am trying to fix the program and display. I have the fix in it is only the error msg not showing. Any ideas? Can someone look at it perhaps?

First guess when you press enter the validation code isn't run but when you press F12 it is.  When it's run it loads the message file.

Second guess when you press enter the code to redisplay the screen doesn't write the message subfile control record but the F12 does.

Have you tried to step through the program in DEBUG. You can see if the correct indicator is that that would display the message and see what is happening after you do the check and find invalid data.
