Disks Configuration
Hi everyone,
Good day! Let's say that I have an AS/400, all disks configured and installed necessary software (LIC, OS, Licensed Programs, etc.). Then I removed all the disks and labeled it with it's location in the server. I replaced the disks with new set of disks and installed also everything. When I want to use my old configured disks, returned them in their proper location, will it still work?
What do you think?
Thanks and God bless,
Randy

Are you looking to do something similar to having 2 different OS's say like V6R1 and V7R1  and be able to switch back and forth by switching out your disks ? Seems like a lot of work and I personally would not want to remove the disks and risk damage. Not sure if it would be covered if you have a service contract if something did happen.

If you reload all of the disks from a set, it may work.  If you try mixing disks from the sets, it likely won't.

In either event it's not something I would recommend in a production environment.

It might well be cheaper - & certainly less prone to problems - to see about a second disk enclosure & partitioning your system.

I just wanna try. Yes Sir Splat, I will not mixed the disks that's why I will label the disks its proper location in the server. Do you think it will work?

excellentrandy, as I said, it may work.  It's not something I've tried & not something I'd want to try.

I do hope you're doing this on a test machine.
