IBM even recommends a save when their tech is doing the work.

A few weeks ago IBM changed the cache battery in one of our iSeries. It is surprising how many steps he went through and the great care he exercised, expecially when handling the IOP card, such as using an anti-static pad.

A CE can do it, but changing the battery should be expected to be ‘do-it-yourself’.
