disk degraded

Disk drives, WRKDSKSTS, AS/400

My as400 is showing a status of 'degraded' when doing a 'wrkdsksts'. I would assume that one of the disk has failed but all say operational when using display hardware resources. Help!

If you use F1 (Help) on the display you will see in the help text:

DEGRADED
Indicates that a decrease in performance has occurred because a
component that is not critical has failed. No data is lost due
to this failure, but the damaged unit needs to be repaired or
replaced.

It could be your cache battery needs replacing.

but how do you know what is the damaged unit

On the WRKDSKSTS display the unit number is shown. Using F1 on the unit value you see:

The disk unit identifier is the same number used by the display
disk configuration function of system service tools.

The most common fault for this is the battery that is used for disk caching needs replacing.
