I suspect my portable hard drive has been copied without authorization. Is there a way to detect what and when any data on portable hard drive has been copied?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

There’s likely no way to detect a copy event. Was the drive in your possession at all times or connected to a computer that only you have access to? Sounds like it might be time to encrypt the drive using something like Truecrypt or Safehouse Explorer.

I'm not sure that there is a way to do this, but I've heard some rumors about C++ shell extension scripts that have the ability to monitor files or folders for whether they are modified or copied. Similarly, most AV programs monitor these sort of things, so you may want to investigate how that is done. Hope this helps! -Schmidtw

Unfortunately, there is no option for you to determine if someone copied the contents of your external hard disk drive or portable hard disk. However, most portable hard disk drives have their own security feature, you can use them to write protect your hard disk drive which is not accessible to another computer user.

Did you let someone use the drive or do you think file were copied via a network connection? If you connect your drive to a PC was it shared out to other users?
