We had been experiencing authentication issues with our Exchange server connecting to our DC.  The domain controller had a trust issue with Exchange, so we determined there was a corruption in the user account associated with the Exchange server.  We disjoined and then rejoined the Exchange server, and it appears to be authenticating successfully now. The issue I need to resolve is to properly reconfigure the Exchange mail host.  The Mdbdata directory is intact on another partition, but I have several error messages in the event logs associated with Exchange.  These include: Event ID 1042 - Metabase Update failed to read the Configuration namespace property from the domain controller. Error code is 80040a01; Event ID 2114 - Process MAD.EXE (PID=3536). Topology Discovery failed, error 0x80040a02 & Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=1664). Topology Discovery failed, error 0x80040a02.  ME Information Store service also fails to start. What is the best way to restore the Exchange server to the previous configuration? Thanks!

Software/Hardware used:
Windows Server 2003 SE SP2

Install the server and configure a fixed IP address and make sure DNS is pointing to the old server. Start > Run > dcpromo and now make the server in existing domain, select yes NOTE: After preparing server leave time to complete initialization and replication. Type dcdiag/q to verify the server for any errors. Do net share to make sure sysvol is shared. If DNS is ok, change DNS of new server to point to as primary dns, Now transfer roles from old to new server. Install land migrate exchange from old to new. After that, make sure users are authenticating, and everything is working well with new exchange 2003 server.
