It is a very wide open statement. The iSeries like any other platform has both a hardware and software component and both need to be acted upon as well as any other infrstructure like the network which in this day and age is the other 50% of the equation.

How much your company will spend on a disaster recovery solution depends on it’s need to be up and running quickly and how much data loss can it accept.

With High Availablilty, you can recover to another matching system in as little as 30 minutes, if practiced and management makes a quick decision but the cost of any HA solution is very high compared to simpley contracting for a hot site to take you nightly tapes to to restore. The business needs to look at all aspects of their business to determine the true business need.

IT usually runs the DR part of the Infrastructure recovery but business needs to bundle this in with the complete DR plan and if everything including desk space for employees, desktop/laptop computers, telephone equipment, back office applications and networking are not included in the big picture then you really do not have a full working DR plan. And like all plans must be fully tested from time to time and like all sucessful IT project must be driving by the buisness owner who is going to pay the bill.
