I was working at a place, where phones where connected to the network jacks, and from phones network cable was gone to a computer.

the phone always get IP address different in range/class than the computer. if i connected the computer directly to the network jack, still it get the same style of IP if it was connected to the cable from the phone.

the question is how can be this acheived that some devices get different class of ip and other devices get another class of IP from the SAME network port/jack?
