I think it is like buying Cisco vs no brand switch. there will be that difference there.
is your switch just a normal / dumb switch or can ..?
prices of switches varies depending on what it can do, like Layer 2 or Layer 3…
for my side we use cheaper switches to connect all the pc’s together and so far there isn’t any problem with it yet.
I prefer to know that I have a quality product that comes with world-class tech support if needed..
If the Cisco enterprise devices (1841, 2960’s, etc) are way too pricey, then I’d look into the Cisco Small business devices ( the RV082, WRVS4400n routers or the SLM-series, SF/G300 switches) – all come with Cisco-level support and cost alot less, but still allow you to do a great deal of the “regular” IOS device functions..
It boils down to what you need, how much you want to invest, and what kind of support you’re looing for – just keep in mind, you get what you pay for…
