Make sure your profile has sufficient authority to work with these commands. By default, these commands have capabilities that cause headaches for system managers/supervisors because it does not follow/use the authorities set.
The RMTCMD command is a DOS command that is installed on your PC with iSeries Access. It used to be an SNA-only command but now it runs over TCP/IP as well and now goes through the Remote Command host server.
If you start the *RMTCMD server on the iSeries, you can use the RMTCMD command from Windows to run a command or a series of commands on the iSeries.
REXEC is a TCP/IP remote command execution protocol.
If you want the AS/400 to be a server, you must start the *REXEC TCP/IP server.
From Operations Navigator – select START option (right click) on the command or run the command STRTCPSVR *REXEC from a command line.
Once that server is started, on the remote machine (pc or any server) type
REXEC [as400name] -l [userid] [as/400 command] – please note the 400 commands must be non-interactive.
