Difference between DVI Singel link and DVI Dual link?

What is the difference between Singel and Dual link, and does it matter which one I use just for normal LCD screens?

Dual link DVI has more terminals/wires, supports higher resolution/. I have HP 30″ monitor, and to get to 2560 x 1600 resolution I need Dual DVI adapter.
