I am trying to track down the answer to sending a document out to all desktops in a Server 2003 AD network. I can find information for deploying .msi packages for software installations, but am unsure if there are any major differences in deploying documents instead. I would like to have a set of step-by-step instructions I can print off....but have had no luck finding something specific. If anyone knows of a site that has these instructions, I would appreciate a point in the right direction, thanks!

Windows Server 2003 in an AD environment

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

There are a number of methods to send a file out.

If you do not have a software distribution tool, you could package your file in an MSI and use the the AD to push out. There are many tools that can create an MSI package.

You can script it from a login script (place the file in the login share to facilitate).

You can use a script to query machine names from AD and push the file to each machine with an administrative ID.

Without details of your environment detailed suggestions are not possible.

You could put something in a login script that will use environment variables to push the document to client computers.

I have used psexec and a machine list to do this quite often. Just create a batch file that calls psexec to execute a copy command for the file or files that need to be distributed

It is not software that I am working with in this example - it is a PDF document - and that's the part that is throwing me. I can find plenty of instructions for deploying software, but it doesn't sound as if the same procedures would be appropriate for documents. What details could I add that would be more helpful? The desktops I wish to place the document on are XP machines, the server is 2003, and it is in an AD domain. Thanks for all the input!
