Deploying software package through group policy
I am trying to deploy software via an .msi file through group policy. There are multiple branches in my domain. I have copied the .msi file to the local domain controller for each branch. I want to create a gpo for each branch that will deploy the .msi file from their respective domain controllers. I have an OU for each branch. In the group policy management console, I create a gpo linked to one of the OU's. I create a new software package, and navigate to .msi file in the shared folder on the server for that branch. I check "assign" and click ok. At this point, the gpedit window freezes and stops responding. The only way I can successfully assign the software is if I use a network share on my local server. But theres no way I can push this software out to all of the branches from that central point. Can anyone give me any insight into whats going on? My servers are all Windows Server 2003 and my clients all run Windows XP service Pack 2
