i just gotten the computer from a friend, i plugged in all the necessary cords and everything. when the computer towers starts up fine and also has sound but the moniter is the real issue im guessing. when the monitor is turned on the power light is green then within a matter of seconds it clicks and the power light turns orange. the screen is just black, no message shows up or anything indicating that its actually in sleep mode. i've tried unplugging the cords from the computer and plugging them back in and i've tried unplugging the cords out of the wall but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me?

If possible, try with another monitor to see if the problem persists.

Have you tried pressing the Caps Lock key ? when doing this you should see a light on the keyboard turning on or off. If you can see this happening, then the problem could actually be the monitor or the video card, if not, it will something else I guess.

Press F8 while starting your system. This will start it in safe mode. If you can see video then your Video card might be set for a resolution that the monitor cannot handle. Either try another monitor, or use safe mode to uninstall the drivers for the video card. This will force the Vid card to default to 800X 600res, which your monitor should be able to handle. From there reinstall vid drivers.
You might also have a setting in CMOS that is causing your system top look for a different video output. If there another Video port on your system. If so try connecting to that one.
Good Luck!
