 Dell Laptops
My management want to change our entire computer standard to Dell. I currently have HP Servers, HP Desktops, and Toshiba Laptops. I am weary of these actions and wanted to know what the general concensus and experience of those who have had to make changes to Dells because these computers are cheap. This is the main driving force behind my company's decision. However, we work in a power plant and the managers (with the Toshibas) are super power users. They have systems to monitor remotely and many applications processing technical information. They take the computers off the site and on the road a lot. What can anyone tell me about transitioning from better quality machines like the ones I've purchased to mediocre ones, especially Dell. P.S. I don't mind Dell on the desktop side as these users do little to worry about.

Answer Wiki:
Stick with the Toshiba product, laptops are what they do best! And support is usually available long past the product life, as is with the HP/Compaq support I receive. I have no real life experience with Dell Server support. My big thing with support is getting support fast. I can have a server part on site for my HP/Compaq product within 4 hours, sometimes less. For HP and Toshiba laptops and desktops, parts usually arrive Next Day. Dell has done OK with my desktop support, but too many questions regarding support for what I ask for. Working in this field for 25 years, I think I know when I ask for a certain part thats what I need. And for various problems on laptops, sometimes they need to be shipped to Dell. Never had that with HP product. One last note, I have actually had HP and Toshiba step and cover the warranty on out of warranty equipment, even a busted LCD or 3 or 4. Never had that on a Dell.
