A user is getting Delivery Failure Report 451 in lotus notes while sending mail to external domain. What do I need to do I have checked IBM knowledge base it say this {This is not a Domino-generated message. It is being returned by the system to which Domino is trying to connect. In this particular case, the receiving Domain could not be contacted, and it is suspected this is their response regarding Reverse DNS lookup. Mail to other locations routed without error. Creating a pointer record (PTR) should resolve the problem. (A PTR associates an IP address with a name)}. If this is the resolution how to do it.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Error 451 generally means that your server is being deferred. If you were to go to your mail server, and attempt to telnet into their mail server on port:

telnet example.com 25

You might get a “we are temporarily deferring you.” response, followed by a disconnect. That means that you are being deferred, either for sending that server too much mail in a short time frame, or because you are on a “black list” for one of many reasons. The easiest way to find out, is to check a couple black lists. My favorite is SenderBase. If you are not on a black list, you are most likely being deferred for sending the destination mail server too many messages in an allotted time frame. That is usually resolved within a couple hours.
