it assigns 2207 port to python I don't know what that means. What do you see that makes you think there is a relationship between port 2207 and python? Are you sure that you don't have some python app that is using the port? (I don't know of any connection between port 2207 and python itself, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.). which causing my instance to be down. Instance of what? Why? What happens? Is there an error reported? Tom

Have u installed hplip on Redhat 5.... (u did not mention here) just guessing this is most probably related to hpssd.py daemon related to hplip and written specially for Fedora vers(though it works for almost all Linux flavors). And Fedora is Redhat's desktop vers, it listens on same pc /localhost by default. Although the conf shows the daemon is to listen on port 2207, but it actually assigns dynamic port. By any chance it shown .py that is why u thoughts it is related to python, but probably this is not the actual case and in that point Tom is right. Generally python script installation command is: python <filename.py> install or simply ./setup.py Try this command to check which ports r listening: netstat -ant grep LISTEN See here for python related concepts Hope it will help u to thesome extend.
