We are a growing mid-size business and debating whether to implement Essentials or Operations Manager. What are some of the business considerations we should be taking into account when making this decision? This question was asked during the Microsoft System Center live chat on IT Knowledge Exchange in January 2010.

The biggest decision is how many servers and desktops you will be managing. SCE 2007 has a limit of 30 server OSs (today, increasing a little with the newer release) to manage, and I believe it is 500 desktops. If you are planning, or expect to grow above this, then the full System Center Tools (OpsMgr, ConfigMgr, DPM, and VMM as part of the Suite) would be a better solution.
