I think it's tougher than it sounds. the situation is that most of the jobs in the cloud are the same job we had on premise. The problem is that now that these jobs are centered in a data center someplace, anyone from any location in the world can manage these jobs. To walk into the same job in the cloud means competed with a world of competition not just the other IT guys in town. For me this means looking for work that can't be done overseas. For me I've decided to look not for positions associated with hardware, operating system or applications. Instead it's about understanding the "custom bits" business owners need to make their companies unique and different. For me this means a major change in thinking. Soft skills like one on one communication, project management, leadership and other non-traditional technical skills (along with the basic technical knowledge and understanding) is what it will take to successfully make the transition to the cloud, maintain salary ranges and provide interesting work.
