Date$ refresh status

If a VB 6 program runs day after day, is the value in Date$ equal to the value when the program was executed or is that value refreshed daily? A calendar program that I wrote sets the backcolor for today's date different than the other days; however, I just noticed that yesterdays date was highlighted because yesterday is when the program was last executed. Program code could certainly correct this but only if the value in Date$ has changed since execution. Yes, I realize that I could leave the program in development mode and let run over night and check it tomorrow but I thought I would give some of the gurus a chance to opine.
