Database Diagram Tool

Does anyone know of a free database diagram tool? I downloaded DBDesigner 4 (http://www.fabforce.net/dbdesigner4/), but it's not working the way I would like. I could just create them in Access but that isn't really ideal. I want to create diagrams of an existing database, not to create a new schema from scratch. Thanks in advance!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Depends on what you already have on your PC. If you have Microsoft Visio, it will work. Also If you are using Sql Server 2000 for you DB, it has a diagram tool in it. Look at the apps you have before you try to find a third party program.

We use Oracle databases and SQL Navigator write code and manage the DB...SQL Navigator doesn't have a tool to create database diagrams, which I why I was looking for an alternative. Thanks!

I use Oracle JDeveloper (10.1.3 Early Access). It is free, and can generate data model diagrams as well as class diagrams.

Visio 2003 has a feature called "reverse engineer" that will let you diagram an existing database and has worked well for me on Access databases.

These people (http://www.modelcreator.com/index.php?s=content&p=products) have a couple of very affordable programs that might work for you, although they are not totally free. Here's another one. This one is shareware; http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Information_Management/Computer_Information_Databases/Database_Design_Studio___Lite__DDS_Lite_.html You can try before you buy, on this one.

I use Aqua Data Studio 4.5.2. (www.aquafold.com). It works with Oracle, DB2, Informix, MySQL, PostGreSQL, SyBase and MS/SQL and has an ER Diagram Generator. It has a free license for personal/educational use; otherwise it has a commercial license. Also, try SQuirrell SQL 2.0 (http://squirrel-sql.sourceforge.net/). It is Open Source and supports almost any DB with a JDBC driver. Hope it helps.
