This would be the host name set up in your tnsnames.ora file in the Oracle_Home\network\admin folder. it would look something like below. In this example, you would use MYDB to reference the serve
r named OracleServer and SID named ORCL

MYDB =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = TCP)
(HOST = OracleServer)
(PORT = 1521)
)
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = ORCL)
)
)

What database version are you using ?

When you install Forms, a file called “tnsnames.ora” is created. In this case it should be under “D:\orant\NET80\ADMIN”. In this file you define your database connections (database server name or ip address, protocol, port, service name/service identifier).

Here is the basic syntax of tnsnames.ora:

net_service_name=
(description=
(address= (protocol_address_information))
(connect_data=
(service_name=service_name)))

When you connect from forms to the database, you should use net_service_name as “Database”.

For example, if you tnsnames file looks like this:

TEST_DATABASE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 172.16.4.1)(PORT = 1521))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = TEST)
)
)

In forms, you connect using TEST_DATABASE as “Database”.
