Answer Wiki:
LAN Bandwidth On LAN technologies, the usual bandwidth are 10Mbps, 100Mbps, 1000Mbps and starting now in some cases, 10000Mbps. The different bandwidth profiles and their usages are described in the table below. Description Bandwidth User workstation 10 or 100Mbps IP Phone 100Mbps Server 10, 100 or 1000Mpbs Connection to WAN router 10, 100 or 1000Mpbs Connection between switches 1000Mbps or an aggregation of n*1000Mbps

While the info above is absolutely correct in the lab (or per the specification), in the real world, you can expect somewhat less that these figures depending upon many factors, mainly aggregate network traffic, i.e.: if you have a 100Mbps pipe to 100 workstations at 10 per cent utilization on a 1000Mbps backbone (server connection), you may find that specific workstation performance may be affected by certain applications such as internet radio, webcasts or online video (You Tube BAAAAAD). While there is no “typical” figure, don’t be surprised if actual speeds are in the 70 – 80 Mbps range or lower for an average 100Mbps connection.
