I need to check whether there are any data found in a data Q. Is there any way to do that? Appreciate if you can provide sample executable codes for me to test it on. Thanks...

Hi Jenny

There is source for a SHWDTAQ (Show Data Queue) command at http://home.midsouth.rr.com/xueli/Shwdtaq.txt which may help.

All the best

Use the Retrieve Data Queue Description (QMHQRDQD) API to retrieve the current attributes of the data queue. Request format RDQD0100 — the number of queued messages will be at offset 72 of the returned data structure. It’s a 4-byte integer, so use 10i 0 (or 10u 0) as the RPG data definition. When the value is zero, there are no messages at the moment.

A commercial product, the PowerCL eXtreme CL Data Queue command category includes both a Retrieve Data Queue Information (RTVDTAQXCL) command which, among other things, retrieves the current number of entries on a data queue and a Display Data Queue Entries (DSPDTAQXCL) command which displays the contents of a data queue interactively. Bruce Vining (one of the authors of PowerCL so I'm a bit biased)
