Data Protector
We purchased Data Protector 5.1 and have been struggling to get it to work. We are scheduled for a class to learn this backup software but it is not until late next month.
In the meantime I am doing what I can to get this backup software to work.
I have an HP library with 4 lto 2 drives and 87 slots for tapes. I have 25 LTO 2 tapes in the library all formatted for the media pool that I created. The drives are defaulted to that media pool. When I try to backup a single server the backup preview tells me that I do not have enough tapes in the changer to perform the backup. The preview informs me that the backup will be 92GB. When I look at a single tape the software reports that the tape is empty with 102GB free.

I just posted this question to a friend of mine working on Dataprotector. Below is his reply.
As per the mail I understand that all the LTO 2 tapes have been scanned and formatted properly.
I suggest to
1. Try taking a small backup instead of huge backup of 92 GB. Lets see if that works.
2. It would help us to get the backup specification and also the messages on DP GUI screen. "I donot have enough tapes in the changer to perform the backup" does not give much information.
3. Though DP shows the tape is free with 102 GB. Actually for every tape type DP shows a default size. So this may not be the actual size of the tape. Even If I put a test tape of 10 GB, DP will still show the default size of 102 GB.
Also some more information on CM and MA may help. Also need to make sure all the DP 5.1 patches have been installed.
