Data center spending: initial cost vs. power-saving?
In ideal world, data center upgrades would not only always be reasonably priced, but they would also be highly efficient. However, we're rarely given the luxury of having both.
In this economy, are you more inclined to buy equipment that is less expensive but perhaps not as power-efficient, higher-end, greener products that could save you money in the long run? What is your rationale for making that choice between power savings and price? What kind of analyses have you run to determine what would be best for you?

We bought bigger servers now, so that we wouldn't have to buy additional servers later. Having less servers sitting there is much more green in the long run.
Those that don't plan there data center strategy for the long run are destined to fail.
