Will data center operators be needed in the future? Will cloud computing eliminate the need for data center operators?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Cloud computing is nothing more than an expandable data center, so no.  It might reduce the need to have 4 when you only need 2, for example, but it won’t eliminate it completely.

The real issue is are you willing to keep up-to-date with your skill set?

Hi, I too am a data center operator for 4 years and I can relate to your dilemma, specially when the company starts to outsource. My question is why limit yourself to just a data center operator? As new technologies emerge and old ones becomes obsolete so does job positions/vacancies.  My suggestion is try learning other areas of expertise. I think there is still a need for data center operators, because these cloud providers will need a bigger data center themselves. In the end, we all need to adapt to the changes so that we ourselves wont be left behind.
