Data Center Migration
Hi All, We are in business of cloud computing. We are planning to migrate few customers from one datacenter to another datacenter without affecting any customer, no single downtime, no packet drop. We are not handling any applications in servers, only infrastructure (IT). Kindly guide me how to proceed further? Kindly share your experiance? Specially i want to know from storage (data) perspective because i am basically from storage and backup. How we can transfer the data without effecting any clients and layout the same data into the original structure? We are having VMware, Clarrion etc. From, Sabarna Deb

Software/Hardware used:
VMware, Clariion, Fortiget, FWSM, HP chassis servers

I don't understand. If that is the business you are in, then you are the experts and we should be asking you those questions. If any of us can answer, then we could be competitors. . If we are competitors, we don't want to give you good advice. We want to give bad advice so that you can't compete for our business. . And if we're not competitors and we know good answers, then we want to be hired for the project. This doesn't seem to be a specific 'problem' that you are asking about. It seems to be about a very specific project road-map complete with technical implementation details. . So, it's just not clear what any good answer should look like or include. . Tom

Paul Korzeniowski recently wrote a general plan for data center migrations on SearchDataCenter: http://searchdatacenter.techtarget.com/tip/A-data-center-migration-checklist-to-mitigate-risk the conclusion is that downtime, unless you have a full hot-hot paired data center setup, is going to happen. It's mostly about preparing customers/end-users well in advance and planning for the shortest possible downtime at the least inconvenient times.
