 Data Center Builds
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get involved with build outs for data centers from a telecom perspective. My company is looking for opportunities to build out our network but I need to be able to present them with the scenario. I realize this might sound like a "sales" message or "Promotional" but that is not my intent. I am looking for a way to find out how I can find those opportunities. I appreciate your help and look forward to your response. If you could email me at jon.evans@xo.com- that would be great. Thanks!

Answer Wiki:
You may want to check the solution IWS (Industry Warehouse Studio) from Sybase Business Intelligence. That solution consists of a core data center aroudn which typical business solutions are build (and telecom is one of their best: it contains about 15 years of experience). It's all pre-build, meaning that development time & cost is limited to customisation, technical issues (environment, machines, connections, ...) and last but surely not least data issues (quality & consistency in data). Hope this helps you. Dries

This may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but since a lot of business is made by personal contact, I’d recommend a formal process of getting involved in related trade groups – not just you, but your company. The downsides are that the business flow from such things is unpredictable, and if you get business that way and the customer isn’t happy, it may hurt your company’s reputation. The key though is that by establishing personal contacts and being a useful contact in other ways.

For example, I provide educational presentations on various aspects of computers for individual users and small companies (my target market) that help people prevent problems – and save them time and money. When they run into a problem too tough for them, they are more likely to call me. In your case, you might consider a free seminar on building elements, plans, etc. for data center expansion. The folks who only need a small one won’t call you, but since you educated them, when it’s a larger project, or they’ve moved to a larger employer, they’re likely to remember you.

Hope that helps,

Bob
