Hi, I am using a data area in a RPG ILE program which will lock the data area and updates value. If the data area is locked, the program has to unlock the data area which is locked by the same user in any of his other session. Is it possible? If yes, please let me know steps have to be followed for this.

Hi,

I don’t think what you want to do is going to be very easy to achieve.

What you may be able to do is find out which sessions have a lock on the data area and either end the sessions using ENDJOB or send the sessions a message requesting the users to exit their session or return to their menu.

It would be better programming practice to only lock and update the data area at the moment the user has pressed enter or an update function key and to release the data area as sson as the update is completed.

Regards,

Martin Gilbert.

Don't believe this is possible without killing the other job. You may want to alter the programs so they only lock the data area long enough to get the value and update the value. This uses IN and OUT
