Damage to Data Center Equipment due to hard shutdown after power failure
Data center cooling, Data Center power management, CRAC Units, Data Center power failure, Data center disaster recovery planning
We experienced hard shutdown of all our data center equipment after utility power interruption and inability of our CRAC units to properly cool the space due to problems with cooling tower. Server room heat reached around 110 degrees causing all equipment to go into a hard shutdown. It tool f hours to bring the tempreture down to around 80 degrees. We have since experienced intermittent problems wth out sun servers. My question is; has our equipment been damaged and should be expect a shortening of life span due to this event and if so, how do we comute the extent of the damage. Thanks.

It is possible that the heat has damaged the equipment. The servers should shutdown before anything to bad happens to them, but when the heat gets high enough the heat will damage the equipment even if the equipment if off.

I'm not sure if there is going to be a way to figure out exactly what has been damaged. It's probably going to be a trial and error to figure out what is broken.
