Custom Email Column and adding a note item

Hello, I am working on a project where I need to set the value of an Inbox column to a custom database item's value. I have been able to add a column to my Inbox view using the Domino designer, but I have not been able to figure out how to add a database field that I can set the value of the column to in the designer (all I get is a list of the existing fields). The field (item?) that I add needs to be accessible via the Notes C API, so I can set its value from an extension manager event, and then have that value display in the Inbox folder view (in the column). I am new to Notes/Domino, so I appreaciate any help you can provide me with. Thanks!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Hi, if the item value is on the document in the inbox (items are on documents, fields are on forms) you can modify the ‘Display’ in the column value to ‘Formula’ (the three options are ‘Simple Function’, ‘Field’, or ‘Formula’) and then type the name of the item for the formula.

I think the list of fields you select from are generated by fields that have been created on forms in the database’s design. You can have an item on a document without having a field of the same name on a form by setting the item programmatically.

Cheers, Jimmy

Matt, You should add the field to the forms (memo, reply, etc) that you are using in the column. You can either define a default value for the field in the field definition itself, of write an agent to populate the value. If you give me a better idea of exactly what you want to accomplish, I'm sure I can help more. -D
