 Retrieving package for V6R1
CUM PTFs, Cumulative PTF Package, iSeries V6R1
Hi, I have trying hard to retrieve the CUM package for V6R1..I have tried every way I did FTP from OS400 and after 300 MB download of first CUM file it got ended with message TCP/IP unable to receive data, other 2 ptf images were retrived successfully. I have tried to download onmy PC but again it was stuck on fisr file at 300 MB...I tried to ordered again n follow the same steps. but didn't work. I used different IP also.

I have found the best way to obtain a CUM, especially if you are more than 1 level behind, is to go ahead and order them on media from Fix Central. There are a few extra steps involved to load it from DVD, but, when you take into account the time spent trying to download over and over, it's well worth it. I would also suggest ordering any Groups you need as well. Usually if you get your request submitted by about 11:00 am MST, you will recieve the DVDs the next business day.

I don’t quite understand that. Do you mean that you actually used the FTP command to try to download a full cume PTF package?

Tom, I use the FTP option when ordering fixes through Fix Central & the posted URL is the same one I pull fixes from. I generally pull them down to my PC first, then put them on the iSeries I’m going to update.

I find it interesting that Mani1017 is having trouble with the first file / image but not having trouble with the subsequent images. Are the files / images the same size or are the 2nd, 3rd, &c. smaller?

The URL shouldn’t be the important part; it’s the client that would be relevant. I hoped to verify whether it’s the basic i OS FTP client or it’s the Fix Central download director.The Fix Central download director should manage the transfers better than the plain client.

I’ve had download problems, but they’ve always cleared up after a while. I think it also helps when reporting problems to IBM.

I’ve never had much luck – the good kind, at least – with download director. That’s why I use FTP software on my PC to retrieve the package(s).
