Crystal Reports newbie has a question

Crystal Reports, Web development

I am an intern at my company and I *think* I have to use Crystal Reports to complete one of my projects. I will start by explaining what I need done. I would like to know if it is possible, and if it is, how I would go about doing it.

I am building a web-based accessible use policy agreement for a school district. The point is to allow parents to just go online and sign the agreement. I also have to provide a download link to download a paper version in case they don't want to use the online version. I have been asked to include barcodes on the paper version so that when it is brought back to the child's school, they can just scan it and add the child's userID to a table instead of manually entering the information.

I was thinking that the best way to go about this would be to ask the parent for their child's userID and somehow send it to Crystal Reports. I then need to get the form to the parent for download. I have figured out how to do the barcodes using JBarcodeBean, I just need to know how to set this up so that it is 100% automated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Logan

I think there could be some challenges to the “electronic” signing of this document. How can you ensure that the child did not electronically sign the document instead of the parents or one student sign the agreement for another student? Electronic signatures really need some certificate authority to ensure the identity of the signer is really who they say they are.

I am not looking for a signature, parents will have a password. Not that it would matter because the point of getting a signature to to protect the school legally. I know plenty about the web side of this. I just need help with Crystal Reports.
