Q:
Cross-platform tools for security, monitoring
What would be some good cross-platform administration tools to use for an environment running Windows OS X and Debian's test release lenny?

It is a small business (<200 employees) and the main concerns are being able to perform secure file transfers throughout the system and keeping track of everything going on on the different operating systems at the same time.

Smoothwall or Cobia might fit your requirements. Filezilla is a good secure FTP server & client solution.

Definitely check out FileZilla but also VanDyke Software for secure file transfers. System monitoring is a whole different beast. There are tons of solutions out there but so many options so you need to determine what exactly you’re wanting to accomplish first. Any specifics?

For several years I successfully used VanDyke’s tools for secure remote access and FTP, found the easy to use and easy to deploy. From my perspective I highly recommend them.

Again, it depends on what you’re looking for, but if it’s of any value check out Nagios for your system monitoring. It’s open source and free and I’ve heard good things about it from my clients and others.

I’d check out Webmin.
I’m using it on linix distro’s to perform pretty much all admin functions.
I don’t know if it supports Mac’s.
