RPGLE
Hi everybody! I'm tasked with developing an attendance system for work and I'm using RPGLE. The physical file contains the following fields:
User ID(key field),Date,Time In,Time Out
......
I need the system to display records by the highest value of Time Out for a given day, and then use the Time Out value as a variable in my program. How do I do this?

How do you do what? What is the specific problem you're having? What does your code look like so far? -- Tom

The scope of this seems very large.

    1.  to display records by the highest value of Time Out for a given day

You can create a logical file over your physical file on Date and Time_Out (declinine)

An RPG program can ask for the required date and access the file for the date.

It could loop through the file loading a subfile and display the subfile.

I'd probably use embedded SQL rather than a sequenced LF. The question seems clear enough, but it seems to be asking fundamentally "How do I write a RPGLE program?" That makes it seem to be way too broad. -- Tom

Not just a program but a whole application.

We did this at our company. It starts with attendance, then expands to time calcs to feed payroll, supervisor approval of time, scheduling days off, etc, etc, etc.  Unless your company is unusual you may be seeing just the tip of the iceberg on this one. Strongly recommend getting all the info you can before starting any coding. This could easily turn into a major project.
