Creating a .xls text field from AS400 file with dd/mm/yy field

I am using client access to create a spreadsheet from an AS400 file. Although a date field is defined as alpha in AS400 DDS specs, the field is populated as dd/mm/yy in the AS400 file. When the spreadsheet is created using client access, the field does not come across as text. I need the field to be text when uploading to another vendor's system. How can I make client access create an .xls file with text dd/mm/yy field?

Hi Cunninjoe

Any options to using XLS — CSV???
Comma separated values (CSV) – Standard delimiters are comma’s with “” around character fields.
Open it with word pad or note pad – not Excel.

XLS – Had to tell what the 400 is doing and what Excel is doing.

Are you selecting “receive file from host” in client access? If so, click on “Format Options” and try changing the date fornat there.

Thanks to all. In the interest of time, I went back to Client Access since my user seemed to be having difficulties with the required manual intervention and I couldn't make anything else work. Joe
