Creating a calender "alert" system in Outlook 2003


Outlook, Outlook 2003, Outlook calendar

I'm running Outlook '03 SP. What I need to do is create a calender alert type system to notify certain users within the company that various contract terms are about to expire and be automatically renewed. How would I go about doing this? I am not sure if we are on Exchange or not.
