In Outlook 2007, when moving a past e-mail from the inbox to another folder, the created date in the viewing pane changes from the date it was originally received to today's date. How can I maintain that original created date in view regardless of when it is moved?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I tried to replicate this and it did not change the created date. Have you tried dragging the email to the other folder? The only explanation I can think of is that you are cutting and pasting and the application believes you are creating a new item. Have you tried using the move feature? Please get back to us and let us know the procedure you are using to move the message (s).

Moving an e-mail item does change the 'Created' date for me, and it doesn't surprise me although I could accept it working either way. However, the 'Received' date remains as the original date of receipt as I would expect (demand) it to. Tom

It happens regardless of the means I use in moving a message between folders, whether it be by drag-and-drop, from the pull down menu, from the keyboard shortcut, or by right clicking.

Resolved - added "received" category to viewing pane. I should have figured that out long ago. Thanks for the help.

Glad it worked. I was mostly responding to the 'answer' in order to make sure we all knew what each other was saying. Sometimes a different word makes all the difference. I suspect that 'Created' date ensures that some basic form of audit can be done. It notes that some manipulation happened on that date. Not sure how valuable it is. Tom

One other consequence of the change in the creation date is that autoarchiving uses the created date, not the received by date to calculate what to archive. So items received months ago, but moved recently will not be archived. Just keep that in mind if you are using autoarchiving.
