CPYSPLF
I have a program that emails from the spool file whenthe user uses option "E". I created this. Anyway. It blows up on a spool file that has a barcode in it defined. "Attributes of file RB421P not supported." b/c of AFPDS barcoding it fails to create the file so I can do snddst command. Any ideas out there on how Ican get it to work? THanks

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Unfortunately, the CPYSPLF command itself does not support Graphic or Barcode data. You can see that in the help text for the command. Don’t know if you can work around that limitation.

I see that in the error description. That is why I put the question out here. To see if anyone had a work around.

Well, since the AFPDS spooled file isn't going to be text with fixed-length lines, it isn't going to go into a normal physical file. Nor will you be able to e-mail it except as a MIME attachment. And the recipient will need an AFPDS writer and printer in order to view it. I don't know how it could be 'viewed' coming as an attachment; are there AFPDS viewers that can read from a streamfile? (Is it being sent to another AS/400 or IBM mainframe user?) Simplest will be to create a PDF and send it through a SMTP e-mail client. If your e-mailing program is QtmmSendMail based or Java mail or similar, then you might already have programming for the encoding needed for MIME. All you'd need to add would be the PDF creation. Tom

I use SNDDST command. So I don;t convert to PDF. There probably isn;t a free PDF converter out there. I do howver have "Complete PDF" on my pc. I even tried to print to it and it says it does not support it when trying to send it to the printer.

if you are on i6.1 (V6R1)
      OVRPRTF FILE(print-file) DEVTYPE(*AFPDS) WSCST(*PDF) +
              TOSTMF('/usr/local/pdfs/my-pdf-file.pdf')
      CALL PGM(MYRPGPGM)
      DLTOVR FILE(print-file)

I guess I should clarify a bit... you can add an override to the print file BEFORE generating the spool file. Then when you call your program (called MYRPGPGM in example, but not necessarily RPG) you get an IFS file with the pdf in it. Just send that.

Giovanni Perotti's MIME & Mail will do a PDF conversion.
